Schools are reaching out to families directly to invite students to participate in a Summer Acceleration Academy. Ballou STAY8While all students need to be reengaged, we need to prioritize tier II and III students. While the tier system looks differently at Ballou STAY, we know that our 9th graders generally struggled with virtual learning and did not attend classes this past year. Additionally, students that were new to Ballou STAY in the fall of 2020 never had an opportunity to meet teachers and staff in person. These students missed the most valuable secret ingredient for success at Ballou STAY, building a relationship meaningful relationship with a caring adult.

The primary objectives for our summer focus include the following:

Providing students with an enriching experience to introduce them to the Ballou STAY Way, develop habits of success, and create meaningful relationships with peers, teachers, and staff.

Facilitating a project- based learning experience that highlights the culture, political, social, economic history, and current events of the District of Columbia as an introduction to the academic style and expectation of Ballou STAY.
