A Message Regarding COVID-19 Guidelines and Holiday Travel and Gatherings
The state released new guidelines today that modified the criteria for determining close contacts and assessing exposures in K-12 school settings.
After reviewing the information, we consulted with Dr. Frederick Echols, Acting Director of the City of St. Louis Department of Health (DOH), and determined the best course of action for our District is to continue to follow COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
CDC/DOH Guidelines Followed by SLPS *
  • Contact tracing will be conducted for “close contacts” (any individual within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) of laboratory-confirmed or presumptive COVID-19 patients.
  • The 15 minutes can be consecutive or cumulative within a 24-hour period.
  • Close contact can occur even if one or more individuals is wearing a mask.
  • Close contacts will be instructed to self-quarantine for 14 days from their last potential exposure and may be referred for testing.
  • Close contacts instructed to quarantine will be monitored daily by the DOH and will be referred for testing and medical care upon onset of any symptoms.
  • Negative test results for close contacts do not change the length of quarantine. It is still 14 days.
Additionally, the District encourages all staff and families to review CDC guidelines for holiday travel and gatherings. The agency warns that even small social gatherings are an important contributor to the rise in COVID-19 cases and provides tips to mitigate that risk.
To help limit spread in our community, the week following Thanksgiving (Nov. 30 – Dec. 4, 2020), District schools will remain closed to students (staff may still work out of the buildings), and all instruction will be virtual. Students currently enrolled in in-person instruction will return to their schools on Monday, Dec. 7, 2020.
Thank you for your attention to these important updates. Be safe and be well as we approach this holiday season. We will continue to provide updates next week regarding CDC recommendations.
Thanksgiving Reminder
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the District has adjusted the calendar to be closed the week of Nov. 23, 2020. Originally, students were scheduled to be in class on the Monday (Nov. 23) and Tuesday (Nov. 24) of that week. Now, all District schools and offices will be closed, and all staff will be off with pay Nov. 23-27.
