U.S. Unwinds In-Person Education With Closings in Over 30 States

U.S. students, whipsawed by openings and closings, are increasingly attending school virtually.

As of Monday, 43.5% of students were attending virtual-only schools, an increase of more than 5 percentage points from a week ago, according to Burbio, a New York-based data service. The uptick reverses a trend toward in-person instruction, and virtual education is likely to keep rising in the coming weeks, said Dennis Roche, Burbio’s co-founder.
