Dear KLSD Community,

Last night we learned of an individual connected to the John Jay Middle School community who has tested positive for COVID-19. This case results in approximately 50 people needing to quarantine. All those who need to quarantine have already been contacted. We also learned today of another individual connected to the John Jay High School community who has tested positive, but due to the timing, this case required no contact tracing.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the number of JJMS staff now quarantining, we are only able to offer in-person instruction tomorrow and Friday for 6th and 7th grade students (Cohort B and those who attend 4 days a week). All 8th grade students (regardless of cohort or typical days of attendance) will learn remotely tomorrow and Friday. We will be in touch as soon as possible about next week’s plans for JJMS.

You may have heard that the CDC has changed its recommendation regarding the length of quarantine. Please understand that we must wait for revised guidance from the NYS Department of Health before we can change our practice. If and when that new guidance arrives, we will let you know.

As always, I wish everyone well and thank you for your ongoing cooperation.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
