Changes To In-Person Instruction For Auburn Schools & Spring Break Food Box Distribution

March 25, 2021

Dear Auburn Families,

We are very excited to announce that we will be able to provide the opportunity to bring all of our students back for in-person instruction full time based on the recent announcement from the Cayuga County Board of Health recommending physical distance between students move from 6 feet to 3 feet. We are anticipating full time in-person instruction to start April 19 as long as COVID cases remain low during the two-week period following spring break.

All elementary students in the hybrid learning model will return for in-person instruction Monday through Friday. If your child is a full-time remote learner, you will be contacted by someone from your child’s school to see if your child would like to switch to in-person instruction. Students who switch from remote learning to in-person instruction will be assigned a new teacher. Any students who wish to remain in the fully remote learning model will remain in the Remote Academy with a dedicated remote teacher, but it is possible that they will be assigned a new teacher based on enrollment in the Remote Academy. Any elementary special education students who choose to remain fully remote will be moved to the Remote Academy and reassigned to a dedicated remote special education teacher.

All secondary students in the hybrid learning model will return for in-person instruction Monday through Thursday. Fridays will be reserved for teachers to work on lesson plans, prepare resources, upload assignments for their remote learners, and hold office hours. If your child is a full-time remote learner, you will be contacted by someone from your child’s school to see if your child would like to switch to in-person instruction.

Please note, if your child is in the hybrid learning model at the elementary or secondary level, they will automatically be enrolled in the full in-person instruction model. If you do not wish to have your child enrolled in the full in-person instruction model, you must contact your child’s school and request to be switched to the fully remote learning model.

With these changes, we still need to follow all of the health and safety guidelines outlined by the health department including temperature screenings, wearing masks, and social distancing. The only difference in the guidelines is the change of being 3 feet apart instead of 6 feet. Also, please remember, if your child is ill, they must stay home and obtain a negative COVID test before returning to school.

We are very excited about bringing more of our students back for in-person instruction every day. We will continue to keep you informed as we navigate our way back to some sort of normalcy.

With spring break next week, we are excited to share that the Food Bank of Central New York is partnering with our school district once again to distribute food boxes at Auburn High School on Friday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. We will have 300 15-lb. produce boxes and 300 15-lb. meat and fruit boxes available to families on a first-come, first-served basis. We thank and appreciate the Food Bank of Central New York, the Auburn Police Department, and our volunteers who allow us to provide these food boxes to our families in need prior to spring break. Due to a COVID vaccination clinic at the high school in the morning, we had to change the distribution time. Again, food box distribution will be Friday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Auburn High School.

Have a happy and healthy spring break!
