Plan 3 - Extended through December 18th
Dear North Olmsted Families,
At the beginning of the school year we stated that our learning plans were subject to change as the status of the pandemic evolves and new data and guidelines are released from health officials. We stressed that we must be flexible as we navigate through the school year and the challenges associated with Covid-19.
Over the last several weeks the district has experienced an increase in Covid-19 cases. The increase we are experiencing in our district is reflective of what we are seeing at the county and state levels. We have seen a steady increase in the number of students and staff testing positive as well as additional students or staff that have had to be quarantined. As we navigate through the holiday season as well as flu season, it is likely that our cases will continue to increase and more students and staff will need to remain at home.
Prior to Thanksgiving, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health issued a Stay-at-Home Health Advisory until December 16th. This advisory recommends that school districts transition to online remote learning after the Thanksgiving holiday in an effort to slow the spread of Covid-19.
Taking all of these factors the district will remain in Plan 3 Online/eLearning (PreK-12) through December 18th. The district will continue to evaluate the data and local recommendations. We will make a determination about our learning plan for when school resumes on January 4th. Communication will be sent out to families on Wednesday, December 30th.
Please know that we are taking this action to protect the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. We appreciate the support and flexibility of our families. If you have any questions please contact your child’s school.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Zalar, Ph.D.
