ON MONDAY NIGHT NEW ALBANY FLOYD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS WILL MAKE THE DECISION ON WHETHER OR NOT MORE THAN 12,000 STUDENTS AND FACULTY WILL HAVE TO WEAR A MASK. THE DECISION IN NEW ALBANY COMES JUST DAYS AFTER THE GREATER CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT CHANGED HIS POLICY TO REQUIRE MASKS THE SUPERINTENDENT SENT A LETTER TO PARENTS OVER THE WEEKEND ALERTING THEM THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN 70 POSITIVE CASES AMONGST STUDENTS IN THE FIRST EIGHT DAYS OF SCHOOL IN ADDITION. HE SAYS DECISIONS ARE MADE ON A WEEK BY WKEE BASIS AS COVID-19 NUMBERS HAVE BEENAP RIDLY CHANGING HE APPLIES TO DISTRICT FOR TAKING THAT STEP. WHAT’S ON THE EXPLOSION OF CASES ALSO FORCED JEFFERSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL TO CCEANL THE FIRST TWO VARSITY FOOTBALL GAMES OF THE SEASON AS SEREVAL PLAYERS ARE UNDER QUARANTINE. BOTH SCHOOL DISTRICTS SAY THEY’RE FOLLOWING THE GUIDANCE OF THE STATE AND THE LALOC HEALTH DEPARTMENT DR. HAZEL SAYS AS OF NOW, THERE’S BEEN NO DISCUSSION OF RETURNING TO VIRTUAL LEARNING FULL-TIME FOR GREATER CLARK COUNTY STUDENTS. Southern Indiana school district moves to virtual learning days after welcoming students back
A southern Indiana school district is moving back into virtual learning just days after welcoming students back into classrooms due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.Officials with Scott County School District 1 made the announcement Tuesday on Facebook, informing parents that virtual learning would resume Wednesday.According to the school district in Austin, Indiana, the change is due to the "high rate of positive cases and the extremely high rate of students in quarantine."The school district said it hopes to return to in-person learning Monday, Aug. 23. Students only just returned to school last Tuesday."As always, the health and safety of our students is our number one priority. We will continue to monitor the positivity rate in our county and will react accordingly," officials said in the Facebook post.According to data from the state, Scott County is currently in the orange zone for COVID-19 spread. The positivity rate there is just over 12 percent.Due to the switch to virtual learning, Scott County School District 1 will be providing grab-and-go food pick-up sites again for breakfast and lunch.The school district is also asking all parents to notify schools if their students test positive for COVID-19 so they can keep track of return dates.Click here for updates from the school district.
