GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Alachua County School Board voted to require masks for students for the upcoming school year, despite Governor DeSantis’ executive order targeting COVID-19 restrictions in the state.

The board voted unanimously to require students to wear masks for the first two weeks of the school year.

Last week, Governor DeSantis signed an executive order directing the department of education to withhold money from school districts that enact mask mandates.

The school board’s mask mandate will be reevaluated at their next meeting on August 17.
